Lockheed Martin plans to close or consolidate many of its facilities, a move that would impact thousands of jobs across the country. Some of those jobs could be transferred locally. The company made the announcement Thursday. Sites in Pennsylvania, Ohio and Arizona are expected to close by mid 2015. The closings are a result of decreased spending by the federal government. According to Lockheed officials, 2,000 of those jobs will be eliminated due to facility closures, with an additional 2,000 eliminated in the “Corporation’s Information Systems & Global Solutions, Mission Systems and Training, and Space Systems.” Sites in both Owego and Orlando are possible locations where the MST jobs could be transferred to. Lockheed hopes to have a plan in place by early 2014.
