Lockheed Martin has abandoned its plan to close its Salina plant and transfer its employees to other locations, and instead will add jobs to its Owego facility. Initial reports say that the company has a plan that would move 280 workers to the Owego site. Lockheed has also reportedly had a plan to shut down its manufacturing plant in Akron, Ohio, and divide the plant’s 500 employees between its sites in Owego and Orlando, Florida. Earlier in the month, Lockheed announced a plan to cut approximately 600 positions in the United States across its Mission Systems and Training business, which could include jobs in Owego. Any affected employees are expected to be notified by November 6th. Currently, the facility in Owego employs approximately 2,675 workers.
