The Town of Owego held a meeting on Wednesday to discuss the proposed dog park in Hickories Park, and the park is closer to becoming a reality. The town hopes to have the dog park ready for local dogs by this fall. According to Town Supervisor Donald Castellucci, one of the remaining hurdles is figuring out who will maintain the three-acre parcel of land. The next step toward making the park will be a public hearing and then a vote, which Castellucci says will be scheduled during the next town meeting in September. Officials hope the ground can be broken for the project along with other construction projects planned for Hickories Park, including an expansion of the sewer capacity and installation of sewer hookups at the camping sites. The plan for the dog park was first proposed by the Owego Dog Owners Group.
