Toga County Sheriff Gary Howard is putting drug dealers on notice. This comes after multiple unconfirmed reports of heroin related fatalities, indicating a possible increase in drug activity, and maybe even the presence of Fentanyl (fen-ten-all) laced heroin in our area.
The Sheriff’s Office arrested a man Thursday morning after he was found to be in possession of a substantial amount of heroin. 28-year-old Donnell Grant of New York City was pulled over in his rental car for a vehicle traffic violation. Grant was found to be operating his vehicle under a suspended license, and that’s when officers found ninety packets of heroin and over $900 in cash. He faces charges of criminal possession of a controlled substance in the third degree with intent to sell, a Class D felony, along with promoting prison contraband, also a Class D felony, and charges of aggravated unlicensed operation, and vehicle and traffic infractions. Tioga County District Attorney Kirk Martin recommended bail be set at $50,000 cash or $100,000 bond. Grant was arraigned in the Town of Owego Court and sent to the Tioga County Jail. Tioga County Sheriff’s Deputies were assisted by the Endicott Police Department’s K-9 unit.
