Owego-Apalachin residents approved a proposition Tuesday that will pave the way for the district to purchase four new school buses.
The vote was 210-192 in favor of purchasing three new full-size buses and one smaller bus. It is part of the district’s replacement plan, which calls for buses to be taken out of service after 10-12 years on the road.
State aid will cover 86 percent of the cost to purchase the four new buses. The district will pay the rest – about $11,000 per year over the next five years.
The buses being replaced will either become maintenance vehicles for the district or be sold at auction.
