The Owego Free Academy volleyball team won their second state title in three years on Sunday with a 3-1 victory over Long Island’s John Glenn in the finals. After splitting the first two games at the Glens Falls Civic Center, the Indians took the last two to win the New York State Class B Championship, a title they also won in 2013. Owego qualified for Sunday’s title match after posting the best record in Saturday’s pool play at 5-1. OFA Coach Brittney Race was a guest on the WEBO Morning Show today.

“The nice thing about this team is they are so well-rounded,” she said. “It’s not one or two of them that leads the team, it’s all 14 of them.”

Kim Lavender was selected as the tournament’s most valuable player. Bella Coleman and Madison Delaney were named to the all-tourney team. Coach Race said the team was helped by huge support from the community.

“Everybody was just awesome. We got several compliments from other teams saying our fans really rocked the (Glens Falls Civic Center) and they really, truly did. They were huge for us.”

It is the fourth overall state title for OFA.
