The Open Door Mission on North Avenue in Owego and the Red Door on Broad Street in Waverly are in the process of preparing for this year’s back to school bash. In August, both locations will be giving away backpacks filled with school supplies to children in the area, and as they get ready for the bash, the Mission is looking for donations of backpacks with supplies, or a monetary donation of twenty dollars. The Open Door Mission’s Assistant Director Donna Jantz told the WEBO Morning Show that about 300 children in each of the Owego and Waverly school districts will be receiving the backpacks. The backpacks being given away contain school supplies, and Jantz says that backpacks are personalized based on grade. Donations can be made at either the mission at 425 North Avenue in Owego or the Red Door at 359 Broad Street in Waverly now through the end of July.
