The man accused of robbing the Owego CVS store, and two other Southern Tier businesses in February is now facing more charges. 62-year old John Malowsky of Attica is accused of robbing Maurices Clothing Store in Big Flats on February 26th.
His indictment states Malowsky threatened to use a knife while stealing property from the women’s clothing store. He’s also suspected of robbing the Dark Tan Salon in Corning that same night.
Monday Malowsky was arraigned on charges of First Degree Robbery, Sexual Abuse and Coercion for the Maurices robbery. It also states he forced a person there to have sexual contact with him and compelled two women to remove their clothing. A judge ordered him to be held without bail at least until his next court appearance on June 3rd.
Malowsky has a long history of violent and sexually oriented crimes, including Sodomy, Rape and Sexual Abuse. Chemung County District Attorney Weeden Wetmore says Malowsky has 13 violent felony convictions and spent 31 years in prison before serving out his time, and getting released last November. Just one night after the Big Flats robbery he allegedly carried out a robbery, kidnapping and predatory sexual assault in Broome County.
He was later apprehended, after a short pursuit, when he attempted to rob the CVS Pharmacy in Owego. The Chemung County DA says he will seek a life sentence.
