The Town of Owego will hold a special ceremony on Sunday to dedicate the new 9/11 Memorial in Hickories Park. Sunday’s ceremony will begin at 8:30am to coincide with the 15th anniversary of the first plane hitting the World Trade Center on Sept. 11, 2001. The memorial includes steel pieces from train tracks that ran under the World Trade Center. Elected officials, first responders, and community members are invited to attend the dedication ceremony, but are asked to arrive early to have time to park. The memorial has been criticized by some people due to an inscription that attributes the attacks to “Islamic Terrorists.” Town Supervisor Don Castellucci appeared on Fox News Wednesday to address the controversy, and says the inscription will not change.
