Today is September 11th. It’s been 16 years since the attacks on the World Trade Center, Pentagon, and Shanksville PA. 2,996 people were killed and more than 6,000 others wounded that day. A remembrance ceremony will be held in the village of Owego this morning.It will take place behind the Tioga County Court House near the fireman’s fountain. The event is organized by the Owego Fire Department, and is open to all individuals and all departments. The event begins with a procession from Owego’s Central Fire Station on North Avenue. The ceremony takes place from 8:45 to 9:15; the same times the twin towers were struck. A second remembrance ceremony will take place this evening in Hickories Park at the 9/11 monument. That begins at 6:00 PM and is also open to everyone.
