Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day in Owego

SHARE NOW

Veterans and a few members of the public took time Tuesday to commemorate Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day in Owego.
Tuesday was the 69th anniversary of the Japanese attacks on Pearl Harbor.
The Owego VFW hosted an event to remember all those who were killed and those who survived, including Richard “Dick” Hopkins of Berkshire, who spoke yesterday. He was one of four from the county who survived the attack and went on to serve in the South Pacific during the war.
Dale Sibley of Owego is still entombed in the USS Arizona, which was sunk during the attacks. The dining room at the Owego VFW is named in his honor.
