One person was killed in a small plane crash in Yates County, NY Wednesday night.
The sheriff’s office says the plane was reported down in the Town of Barrington around 8pm. The small town near Keuka Lake is about an hour and a half away from Owego.
The sheriff’s office says the single-engine aircraft crashed head-on into trees eight miles after taking off from the Penn Yan Airport.
The pilot, 56-year-old Michael Lippe of New Jersey, was found partially ejected from the plane. He was pronounced dead at the scene. There were no other passengers.
Lippe was an Emergency Room doctor who was scheduled to work Thursday at a hospital in Geneva.
Both the FAA and the NTSB are investigating the crash.
