A country singer traveled more than 100 miles to sing a tribute for fallen Owego firefighter Matt Porcari.
Paul Cummings, a firefighter in the Rochester area, is on a “30 shows in 30 days” fire house tour. He normally doesn’t travel farther than 50 miles, but he was moved by Porcari’s story when Porcari’s uncle, Lee Dunham, contacted him. He emailed Cummings, told him the tragic story of Porcari’s death and Cummings offered to perform for the Owego community.
The proceeds from the concert are going towards a training program at the Owego Fire Department that will include a live-burn building to make training as realistic as possible.
Dunham, also an Owego firefighter, says he hopes the training will prevent future tragedies.
Porcari lost his life while battling a house fire on January 21 in Newark Valley. The concert is just one of the several events that have honored his life over the last two months.
