Owego Free Academy unveiled the state championship banner for the volleyball team yesterday. The event included several speakers and finished with a special intersquad scrimmage among team members.
Not only did the volleyball team finish as undefeated state champions, but they also were recognized a scholar-athlete team after posting a team grade point average of 94. There were several individual awards, including three players named all-state. One of those was senior Kim Lavender, who was also the state tournament MVP.
This was the second state championship for the volleyball team in three years and the fourth overall state title for OFA. Baseball won in 1997 while boys soccer won in 2002. Photos from yesterday’s assembly are posted on the WEBO Facebook Page.
