The Strawberry Festival Committee is pleased to announce the 2011 Strawberry Festival Contest Winners:
Pie Baking Contest:
Adults:
1st Place: Rebekah MacFadden, Apalachin
2nd Place: Melissa Wuerthner, Owego
Children:
1st Place: Nicole Canfield, Owego
Eleven entries were submitted. The first place winners each received a $50 gift certificate to shop Historic Owego Marketplace businesses. Pies were judged by a panel of four judges on filling, crust, appearance and overall taste/flavor. Each of the winners also received a Pie Baking Contest Trophy.
Straw Dawgs Strut Their Stuff Contest:
Best Costume (Rosco), owner Millie Hensen. Rosco is a Mini-Dacshund.
Funniest Costume (Ted the dog), owner Chris and Bill Pellicano. Ted is a Rottweiler/Mastiff.
Pet/Owner Look-a-Like (Dahlia), owner Cassandra Shaffer. Dahlia is a red-nose Pitbull.
So Ugly They’re Cute (Buster), owner Kristina Jackson. Buster is a Schnoodle.
Best Trick (Molly), owner Linda Lawrence. Molly is a Terrier.
Best in Show (Buster), owner
Twenty-three dogs promenaded their “stuff” at the Friday night Block Party. The proceeds from this contest, which raised $170 with an additional $100 in additional donations, will go toward Stray Haven Animal Shelter, Waverly, NY.

The Owego Strawberry Festival held its first Strawberry Festival Beauty Competition for girls and boys, ages 0-19, at the Courthouse Square Gazebo at Friday’s Block Party, June 17. Ninety-eight children participated in the contest. Congratulations to the winners which are listed below.
