Tioga County Treasurer James McFadden has released the details of the county’s 2011 tentative budget.
The $68.8 million spending plan is calling for a property tax levy increase of around 2 percent.
The tax rates of each town are varied and set by the state. The largest increase would be seen in the Town of Richford, where property taxes are set to go up by 21 percent under the terms of the tentative budget.
Barton, Berkshire, Newark Valley and Spencer residents would see between 3 and 11 percent hikes next year while those in Nichols, Owego and Tioga would see decreases in their taxes, according to the treasurer’s office.
Legislators are planning on using nearly $5 million from their reserves to help balance the mandatory health and pension cost increases for next year. The tentative spending plan is available online at www.tiogacountytreasurer.com.
A public hearing to discuss the budget will be held next Tuesday at 6pm in the county office building.
