Auditions for Ti-Ahwaga Players production of Terrence McNally’s Master Class will be held Thursday, February 3rd from 7-9 PM and Saturday, February 5th from 10 AM-12 PM at the Ti-Ahwaga Performing Arts Center, 42 Delphine Street, Owego, NY 13827.
Rehearsals for the production will begin February 28th and the performances are scheduled for April 8th – 10th and April 15th – 17th.
The play is based around master voice classes held by the legendary opera diva, Maria Callas at Julliard School of Music.
The work is a Tony Award winning play and been reviewed as “rich, vivid, satisfying” and “mesmerizing theatre.”
The cast includes three women and three men, ranging in ages 20-50. Owing to the musical/operatic content within the play, one male character (20’s to 30’s) needs to be an accomplished classical piano accompanist, while a second male character (20’s to 30’s) is an operatic tenor, required to sing the aria, “Recondita armonia” from Puccini’s opera Tosca.
Two female roles (20’s to 30’s) need to be operatic sopranos, one (coloratura/lyric) required to sing the aria, “Ah, non credea mirarti” from Bellini’s opera La Sonnambula and the other soprano (dramatic) required to sing the aria “Vieni! t’afretta” from Verdi’s opera, Macbeth.
The two remaining cast members (Maria Callas, 50’s and a Stage Hand, 40-50) are non-singing roles. Those auditioning for any of the three singing musical roles mentioned above need to audition with the piece(s) mentioned. An accompanist will be provided for the audition process. Selected dialogue readings from the play will be asked for during the audition. The production will be directed by James Osborne.
