The Tioga County United Way is about $30,000 short of their $330,000 goal for 2011.
They are responsible for helping fund many human service programs throughout the county from food pantries to after school programs.
This is the second year the Tioga County United Way has fallen short of its fundraising goal and it is a direct result of the economy.
But they say they are confident they will still be able to provide the funds necessary to their 32 member agencies.
“We may have to tap into our capital reserves which we don’t like to do. But the bottom line is our capital reserves are for situations like this where there is a need, it is basically our savings,” said Tioga County United Way Director Fred Trzcinski.
The largest contributors to the campaign include Lockheed Martin, Tioga Downs, Owego-Apalachin and Newark Valley school districts, Tioga County employees, Best Buy and IBM.
The Tioga County United Way is still accepting donations.
