A pair of undefeated Tioga County teams advanced in the playoffs over the weekend. At noon on Saturday, the Tioga Tigers football team took on Unatego for the Class D sectional title, with Tioga coming out on top 80-53. The slugfest had Tioga up big before they took most of their starters out at halftime, trading punches in the second half with a Unatego offense that was pass-heavy. The next step for Tioga will be facing off with Section 3 champion Herkimer, who beat Sandy Creek over the weekend by a score of 43-14. The win marked Tioga’s third consecutive section title.
Waverly was not able to have as much success over the weekend, suffering a loss to Chenango Forks in the Class C title game 49-15. But in volleyball, Owego Free Academy was able to keep things moving through the state playoffs, as they improved to 20-0 with a win over Section 1’s Hendrick Hudson on Saturday. OFA will go to the state’s final four for the first time in school history. The ladies will next play on Saturday at the Glens Falls Civic Center beginning at 8:30 in the morning.
