Fourteen 8th Grade students from Waverly had the opportunity to attend the annual Lockheed Martin’s National Engineer’s Week Event on May 17th. The event is intended to provide students a variety of “hands-on” experiences to learn about engineering and technology and how those careers are utilized in major companies like Lockheed Martin. The event was held at Lockheed Martin in Owego and hosted nine different regional middle schools. The eight activities for the day included the building of spaghetti & gumdrop bridges, helicopter flight simulation, a tour of the environmental test lab, a “LEGO” robotics design & programming exercise, a discussion and tour of the MH-60 Helicopter area/Integration Hangar, a 3-D printing exercise with a prosthetic hand, a “littleBits” electronics exercise, and an egg-drop competition.
