A portion of Route 79 was closed overnight Tuesday after a tractor-trailer rollover in northwest Broome County. The Broome County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the crash that happened on Route 79 at the intersection of Popple Hill Road. One of the vehicles involved, a tractor trailer loaded with garbage, overturned down a steep embankment, according to a news release from the sheriff’s office. The release was not more specific as to the waste the truck was carrying. As a result, Route 79 between Popple Hill Road and the Tioga County line was closed to all traffic. As of 7:30 a.m. Wednesday, the road is down to a single lane so crews can clean up the scene. The sheriff’s office said they didn’t have any information on whether anyone was injured, but responding crews found the driver semi conscious, out of his truck cab and sitting on a guardrail when they arrived.
