Tioga County Sheriff Gary Howard is warning the community after some citizens have reported that they have been approached by scammers claiming to be from the IRS. The scammers say they have a warrant for your arrest and ask that you contact them by phone, where they then ask for personal information. As a reminder, the IRS will never call you to demand immediate payment, threaten to bring in local police to have you arrested, or demand that you pay taxes without showing you a bill. For more tips or information, visit the IRS website. If you are a victim of this scam, please contact the sheriff’s office or any other local law enforcement agency.
