The Tioga County Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with the Village of Owego, is inviting the community to a grand opening celebration and ribbon cutting ceremony at the new skate park in Marvin Park.
The event will be held at noon on Friday at the state-of-the-art skate park.
According to the chamber, the skate park represents a $500,000 investment in youth recreation and community vibrancy.
The skate park project was part of the village’s $2 million revitalization of Marvin Park, which was funded through New York State’s Downtown Revitalization Initiative.
“The Village of Owego’s Downtown Revitalization Initiative award is making a huge impact with key projects like the newly constructed skate park at Marvin Park that will benefit both residents and visitors. It’s exciting to see all the progress that is being made here in Owego, and I can’t wait to see the complete transformation of Marvin Park and the entire community in the near future,” New York Secretary of State Walter T. Mosley said.
Designed and built by Grindline Skateparks, a California-based firm known nationwide for creating custom skate parks, the new facility replaces the old concrete slab and bolt-on features with a custom, cast-in-place layout of bowls, ramps, and street elements. It’s a unique asset to the region, offering a premium experience to local skaters and visitors alike.
The skate park also honors the memory of Ryan Roofner, a passionate skater whose spirit and love for the sport helped inspire the vision for this space.
The grand opening celebration will feature brief remarks, a ribbon cutting, and open skate time for riders to break in the new park.
“All are welcome to attend and help us kick off this exciting new chapter,” a press release from the chamber said.
