After a long-awaited election day for several candidates, Tioga County has decided who its next District Attorney will be. Former Assistant District Attorney Kirk Martin, the republican candidate, won 55% of the vote to Waverly Democrat Fred Luther’s 41%. Martin says he’s honored and humbled to have earned the trust of Tioga County’s voters for District Attorney. He says “now the hard work begins.” Had Luther won election, he would have been the first Democrat to win the DA’s chair in Tioga County since the Civil War.
Elswhere throughout the county there were no upsets. All of the uncontested candidates, and there were many, won election or re-election. That includes Jim McFadden earning another term as County Treasurer, and Neil Lewis as one of Tioga County’s Coroners.
For Berkshire Town Clerk it was Democrat Constance Liddington with 63% of the vote over Annette Thayer who had 36%. In Candor, for town council, Republicans George Williams and Matthew Crowe defeated William Leonard, Jr. For Newark Valley Town Justice, Republican John Schaffer defeated Democrat Corey Relyea with 80% of the vote. Owego Republicans Dean Morgan and Craig Jochum (Yo-come) defeated Democrats Mark Trabucco and Patricia Bence for two town council seats. Richford picked two out of three people for town council; Roberta Holcomb and Kenneth Miller defeated Beverly Brown. For Supervisor in Spencer, Randall Thayer defeated Rick Rogers with 63% voter support. And for town council in Spencer, Allen Fulkerson and Bernard Smith won election. Again, all other races in Tioga County went as expected, with all uncontested candidates winning their chosen race without significant competition from write-ins.
