Tioga County Jail Inmate Faces Four Felonies in Attack on Two Corrections Officers

When the Corrections Officers at the Tioga County Jail responded to an incident September 24 in a housing unit, an inmate physically attacked the officers. As a result of the incident, two officers sustained physical injury.

Members of the Criminal Investigation Division investigated the incident. As a result, 23-year old Devan J. Steigler, of Owego, NY, was charged with:

  • two counts of Assault in the Second Degree, class D felonies,
  • and two counts of Attempted Assault in the Second Degree, class E felonies.

The names of the officers and the extent of their injuries were not mentioned in a news release from the sheriff’s office. The release also not mention whether Steigler was injured or any specific details about the incident itself other than the officers were assaulted.

Steigler was arraigned in the CAP Court at the Tioga County Sheriff’s Office and remanded to the county jail on an additional $25,000 cash bail or $50,000 bond.
