The Tioga County Legislature approved yesterday to reapportion its districts. The 2010 Census numbers revealed the County’s districts were not in proportion. Town of Barton and Town of Owego’s population went down while more people are living in the Town of Spencer. Law requires the biggest district and the smallest to be no more than 10 percent apart. There will still be seven districts. All except district 7 were slightly re-aligned. There will also still be nine legislators representing those areas.
Tioga County Attorney Judith Quigley says only half of a percent of Tioga County’s 51,000 residents actually had to change the legislative district. It was a fairly minor change.
