As counties across New York state continue to press state lawmakers and Governor Andrew Cuomo for mandate relief, this week the Tioga County Legislature took action on at least one new mandate.
On Tuesday the legislature passed a resolution calling for the governor and state legislature to compensate counties for District Attorney’s salaries.
In August of 2011, the New York State Special Commission on Judicial Pay released a plan to increase new judiciary salaries by 27 percent over three years. In the past such mandates also came with supplemental funds.
Tioga County lawmakers noted that the burden on local governments is greater in light of the state’s 2 percent property tax cap. The resolution will now go to the governor and state lawmakers joining similar mandate requests submitted by other counties across the state.
