The Tioga County Sheriff’s Office has determined that the two deaths in the Town of Tioga were a result of a murder-suicide involving a married couple.
According to police, 46-year-old Michael C. Shumway, Jr. shot and killed his wife 44-year-old Janice L. Shumway and then took his own life with a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The crime occurred in the early morning hours on Monday, Aug. 26th on Weiss Road in the Town of Tioga.
The Tioga County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the New York State Police and Tioga County Coroner’s Office.
