Tioga County Sheriff’s Office: One person killed in Newark Valley car accident

The Tioga County Sheriff’s Office announced on Wednesday that one person was killed in a car accident in Newark Valley on Tuesday evening.

According to police, the accident occurred just before 7 p.m. on Tuesday on State Route 38 in the Town of Newark Valley.

The vehicle was traveling north on State Route 38 when it went off the east side of the roadway and struck a mailbox and then a parked car before coming to rest over an embankment.

The driver of the vehicle, 52-year-old Max T. Chandler passed away from his injuries.

The passenger in the vehicle was not injured in the accident.

The Tioga County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Tioga County Sheriff’s Crash Investigation and Drone Units, Newark Valley Fire Department, Campville Fire Department, Maine EMS and New York State Police.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
