The Tioga County Veterans Service Agency kicked off Suicide Prevention and Awareness Month on Tuesday as they unveiled the Field of the Forgotten Fallen on the front lawn of the county building on Main Street in Owego.
The goal of the Field of the Forgotten Fallen is to bring a visual image of the 22 veterans and military a day that we lose to suicide in this country.
Each year, the veterans group dedicates the Field to a fallen hero from our community that we have lost to the war within. This year, they decided to dedicate the field to the families left behind.
The Tioga County Veterans Service Agency honored the Neild family, who lost their son Capt. Timothy Neild, whose death was the driving force seven years ago to make the Field of the Forgotten Fallen happen.
Tioga County Chair Martha Sauerbrey, Legislator Dennis Mullen and representatives from Assemblyman Friend and Gov. Hochul’s office were on hand for the ceremony on Tuesday.
