NICHOLS — A private burial for the over two-dozen racehorses that died in an early morning arson fire at Tioga Downs Casino Resort last week is nearing a somber conclusion, with the racetrack actively working on establishing a dedicated memorial that will stand as a lasting tribute to their impact on the harness racing community.

The horses were laid to rest in a simple service at Tioga Downs in Nichols, and with approval from authorities, they were buried together adjacent to the barn where the incident occurred.

A monument inscribed with the names of the fallen horses (listed below) will be installed to memorialize them.

“Fellow horsemen and women, as they do, have rallied to support those touched by this tragic event with great compassion and generosity. All of the efforts, contributions and tributes are greatly appreciated,” Tioga Downs Vice President of Racing Jason Settlemoir posted on Facebook.
