Black Balloon Day is a national event that will be observed in Tioga and Broome counties to bring awareness to deaths caused by drug overdoses and addiction. In memory of those individuals and families who have been affected by drug abuse. This event also encourages community members to stand in solidarity in support of those who lives have been affected by drugs and addiction. As important as it is to increase awareness and education about the extent of drug abuse in our community, it is just as important to let people know that they are not alone.
In Tioga County, you can participate today in Black Balloon Day by hanging a black balloon in front of your home and/or business to show support for all those who have been impacted by drug abuse. Take a picture and share it Facebook and remember to tag it @TiogaASAP.
In Broome County, Truth Pharm and Broome County Opioid Awareness Council will host Narcan training on Friday from 1pm to 5 p.m. at the Broome County Public Library. Balloons will be handed out at the library and community members are encouraged to hang them outside their homes, workplace or anywhere they can bring awareness, encourage a conversation and educate others about substance use disorders and fatal
overdoses.
Balloons will be available for pick up at Valley United
Presbyterian Church, 459 Park Ave., Waverly from 9:00 a.m. until noon.
