The Town of Nichols Board of Trustees agreed to continue the discussion on whether or not to sell its water and waste water systems to a private company. The discussion started at a trustee meeting last month when the board received an unsolicited offer by SUEZ, a company which currently services water systems in the village of Nichols and Village of Owego. Trustees discussed how the privatization of the water systems in the Town might lead to rate increases for customers, and how a private water system might hinder future businesses from choosing to locate in the Town of Nichols. The discussion will continue at the Board’s next meeting on July 12th at 7pm.
