Two Endicott residents arrested for allegedly stealing copper wire in Owego

Two people are facing burglary charges after allegedly stealing copper wire from a vacant commercial building in Owego.

According to the Tioga County Sheriff’s Office, 46-year-old Shane S. Kelly and 33-year-old Cameron R. Smith, both of Endicott, have been charged with felony counts of grand larceny, burglary and criminal mischief and a misdemeanor count of possession of burglar’s tools.

Kelly is also facing one misdemeanor count of resisting arrest.

Deputies checked a vacant commercial building on Taylor Road on Thursday, May 15th and encountered two people who had unlawfully entered the building and were stealing large amounts of copper wire.

The suspects refused verbal commands and fled further into the building. They were taken into custody with the assistance of the Schuyler County Sheriff’s Office Canine Unit.

Kelly was remanded to the Tioga County Jail without bail and Smith was released.
