A public meeting was held in Waverly yesterday. Waverly Mayor Dan Leary, Village Trustee Chris Brewster, and deputy director of the Tioga County Department of Economic Development and Planning, Teresa Saraceno were all on hand to answer public questions concerning the recent award of $300,000 to revitalize Broad Street.
$15,000 of the grant money will be allocated for streetscape renovations, such as adding trees or signage to the Broad Street area. Mayor Leary has formed a committee to further investigate how to best spend this funding. The committee includes members from the Village of Waverly Tree Board, PenElec, and the Village board.
The majority of the recent grant, however, will go to business owners on Broad Street to make both interior and exterior renovations. The grant will cover up to 75% of these costs. Business owners are eligible for up to $40,000 for their commercial space, and up to $10,000 for individual residential spaces. The maximum amount any one business owner can receive from this grant is up to $60,000.
All renovations that come from this grant are expected to be kept in excellent condition for at least the next 5 years. Annual inspections of these renovations will be conducted. Businesses can apply for funding now through March 11th. For additional information, you can contact the Tioga County Department of Economic Development and Planning at 607-687-8255.
