The superintendent of the Waverly School District will retire at the end of this school year.
Mike McMahon has served in the district’s top spot since 2004. He first started at Waverly as a teacher in 1974. He went on to serve as the high school principal before he was promoted to be the district’s director of instruction, special programs and personnel services.
McMahon says it is simply time for him to retire. His last day will be June 30.
He is most proud of the strong relationships formed by district educators and their students during his time as superintendent.
McMahon is looking forward to retirement, saying he plans to spend more time visiting his children, who live out of the area.
The district has started the search to find a replacement.
