New York State Troopers responded Sunday to a report of a driver menacing with a gun on I-88in Bainbridge. Responding troopers were advised that the driver had been driving recklessly, displayed a handgun at the complainant’s vehicle as he passed them, and continued to drive away.
Troopers from Owego spotted the suspect vehicle on State Route 17 and conducted a traffic stop in the Village of Waverly. 35-year-old Richard Viti, Jr. of Frankfort, New York was arrested without incident. An investigation determined that he possessed a realistic looking airsoft-type handgun in his vehicle and was driving with his young child as a passenger at the time of the incident.
The suspect was charged with Menacing and Endangering the Welfare of a Child. Viti was arraigned in the town of Bainbridge Court and was released on his own recognizance. His next court date is pending.
