Adam Weitsman, local entrepreneur and philanthropist, will make what is described as a generous donation on Friday to a diversion program for at-risk youth that is run by the Tioga County Probation Department.

The program was established as a support and guidance group for at-risk youth. Weitsman learned probation officers were providing for the program partly out of their own pockets and he offered to help by making a donation toward the program.

“As someone who formally got into legal trouble when I was younger, programs like this hit home and are ones that I feel need the support from the community. I am happy to contribute to this great program for at risk youth and helping to make a difference in their lives so others don’t make the same mistake that I did,” Adam Weitsman said.

Joy Bennett, Tioga County director of probation, said “The Family Court Act empowers local Probation Departments to offer diversion services. The purpose of diversion is to allow a youth to take responsibility for his behavior.”

Bennett said the program has been highly successful and an important tool as an alternative to Family Court involvement.

Mr. Weitsman will present Ms. Bennett with his generous donation on Friday at 10:00 a.m. at the Upstate Shredding Facility on Corporate Drive, Owego.

Weitsman has assisted other local organizations by donating to charities and helping others. He recently provided $175,000 to the local chapters of Boys & Girls Clubs as well as gives ongoing support to local women and children charities.
