(Albany, NY)- State Sen. Tom O’Mara (R,C-Big Flats, Tioga County) took the Oath of Office last week at the State Capitol to begin the 2023-24 legislative session representing New York’s 58th Senate District. Tioga had been represented for many years by Fred Akshar, who did not seek re-election to the Senate, but subsequently was elected Broome County sheriff in the November general election.
O’Mara has been reappointed as the Ranking Member on the Senate Finance Committee by Senate Minority Leader Rob Ortt.
Following last year’s legislative redistricting, Sen. O’Mara now represents the newly-redesignated 58th Senate District, including all of Tioga, Chemung, Schuyler, Seneca and Yates counties.
“I look forward to this new legislative session and to representing the communities and residents of several new counties throughout the Southern Tier and Finger Lakes regions. It is one of New York’s geographically largest legislative districts. Nevertheless, the communities and citizens comprising the 58th District share common strengths and goals. I look forward to working with all of you to be a strong voice in Albany, and to keep fighting to secure our priorities for stronger and safer communities,” said O’Mara.
