Tioga Downs has announced the final gambling results for their 2010 racing season.
The track’s handle increased by nearly 8 percent over the 2009 numbers, according to Racing Operations Manager Dustin Ross. The handle is the total amount of money that is bet on all the races.
Ross says most of the industry has seen their handles drop from 2009 to this year. He attributes Tioga’s increase in part to their decision to try a lower takeout rate for this season, meaning that the horsemen agreed to take a lower profit in an effort to get more people involved in wagering on the races.
The 2011 racing season is expected to begin at Tioga Downs in May. For more information on the track, visit www.tiogadowns.com.
