Tioga Downs Casino may be what helps Broome County achieve an even 50/50 sales tax split with municipalities this year. According to recently appointed Broome County Budget Director Jerry Knebel, Tioga Downs is expected to make a $3.75 million licensing fee payment to Broome County. That money would help the county balance its budget for the first year all sales tax is being divided evenly with municipalities.
Recently elected Broome County Executive Jason Garnar says that the move to a 50/50 sales tax split was not slowly implemented as first planned, and that no budget cuts has been made to accommodate the decrease in sales tax revenue.
