Tioga County Sheriff: Spencer-Van Etten senior student killed in one-vehicle crash

On Monday, September 26, at approximately 7:53 AM, the Tioga County Sheriff’s Office investigated a one-vehicle, personal injury crash on Ithaca Road in the Town of Spencer.

Spencer-Van Etten School District Superintendent Barbara Case confirmed on the district’s website that S-VE senior student, Traviz Allen, was killed in the crash. “The loss is sure to raise many emotions, concerns, and questions for our entire school, especially our students.”

Case said counselors will be available to help students, parents and employees.

“We are saddened by this loss to our school community and will make every effort to assist you and your child,” Case said. “This may be a difficult time for your child, your family, and members of our school community. Please listen carefully to your child’s thoughts and emotions, and please share any information to which you think we should be made aware.”

The crash report from the Sheriff’s Office said Allen was the only person in the car and was driving south on Ithaca Road when it went off of the west side of the road and crashed into a house at 420 Ithaca Road. None of the occupants in the home were seriously injured.

Tioga County Sheriff’s Office was assisted on scene by the Spencer Fire Department, Spencer EMS, Candor EMS, Guthrie EMS, New York State Department of Transportation and the Tioga County Crash Investigation Unit. The crash is still under investigation.
