Tompkins County declared a local emergency Wednesday afternoon as a result of last week’s storm damage. Following flash flooding and storms in the county last week, the damage done in the county will cost over $400,000 in repairs. The compromised waterways and infrastructure could put private properties in peril in the event of another storm. County officials say the repairs would be beyond the capacity of what a local government could manage. Tompkins County is asking New York State for help as it takes emergency action.
