Tompkins County legislators took a stand against hydrofracking this week.
Lawmakers voted 14-1 to ban natural gas drilling that uses hydraulic fracturing on county-owned land.
The resolution came after concerns about the dangers of hydrofracking. Nearly a dozen county residents spoke in favor of the measure.
Lawmakers say besides the environmental concerns, they were also worried about the effect that hydrofracking would have on tourism.
The lone dissenting vote came from a legislator who said the wording on the measure was unnecessarily complicated. His push for a simpler, more direct resolution went unheeded.
