The inaugural meeting of the Towanda Merchants Association was held Wednesday night. Representatives from six businesses in the Towanda area met to organize and discuss the creation of the association. The group was created after the Towanda Business Association disbanded years ago, and the new group looks to pick up where the business association left off by hosting a week-long sidewalk sale in the middle of June. The purpose of the new merchants association is to create opportunities for Towanda business owners to network and organize community events. So far on the list for events this year are the sidewalk sale in June, an event to be held on the day of the Halloween parade, a free movie at the Keystone Theatre in December, and continuing Towanda’s Christmas Trail. The group will be holding meetings every month to discuss new ideas. The sidewalk sale will begin on June 16th in downtown Towanda.
