After receiving approval from New York State last month to consolidate their Town Courts, the Town of Chemung and the Town of Erin are applying for state funding to see that happen. The Chemung Town Board is filing a grant application to the state’s Municipal Restructuring Fund Program. The program seeks to incentivize municipality restructuring that leads to tax reductions for New Yorkers. It is unclear at this time if the consolidation of two separate municipality court systems would qualify.
