Two people were killed and two others injured when a car struck a utility pole in Ithaca early Sunday.
An Ithaca police officer tried to pull the car over in the city before 1am, but terminated the pursuit once the car headed out of town on Route 13. The vehicle struck the utility pole near the highway’s intersection with Routes 34 and 96.
A male and a female died in the one-car crash, according to the sheriff’s office. Their identifies have been withheld pending family notification.
Two other males were injured. They were airlifted to Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre.
The crash knocked out power to some Newfield residents for several hours Sunday.
