Two law enforcement officers killed in line of duty in Syracuse


Two law enforcement officers were killed in the line of duty during an incident outside of Syracuse on Sunday night.

Just after 7 p.m. on Sunday, Syracuse police encountered a suspicious vehicle in the area of Emerson Avenue and Hamilton Street. Officers attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver refused to stop and fled the scene.

Syracuse Police and members of the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office responded to the suspect’s home on Darien Drive in Liverpool.

Shortly after arriving, police officers and sheriff’s deputies encountered an armed male and exchanged gunfire with the suspect.

One Syracuse Police Officer and one Onondaga County Sheriff’s Deputy were struck by gunfire. The suspect was also shot. Both law enforcement officers were transported to a local hospital and succumbed to their injuries.

The suspect was also transported to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
