The Union-Endicott Education Foundation has announced the recipients of its largest awards to date.
The UEEF Challenges teams of district teachers to design an outstanding educational experience for their students.
From a number of excellent proposals, the Foundation chose to give a $10,000 Collaboration Grant to Union-Endicott High School teachers Deborah Daugherty and Terre Trupp for their project “Step into STEM: the Physics and Biology of Human Movement.”
Their science students will collect and analyze data from a computer driven biomechanical arm and leg using skills in biology, physics, engineering, technology and math.
Studying the real life applications of this information will give students experiences that hopefully will encourage them to pursue careers in these fields.
A second $6,000 Collaboration Grant was awarded to a team of teachers from Charles F. Johnson Elementary School for their project “Sensory Integration.”
Emily Ashman, Cheryl Humphrey, Liliana Kinback, and Kerry Zostrant will be creating a partnership among school/community professionals and families to address the needs of kindergarten and first grade students who have been identified with sensory issues.
The Union-Endicott Education Foundation is a community based not-for-profit organization founded in 2004 to support, enhance and promote quality education in the Union-Endicott School District.
Since its inception, it has provided over $65,000 in funding for exciting and innovative educational experiences for students.
Support for UEEF grants is generously donated by community members, school district employees, corporate and local business sponsors.
