Union-Endicott High School senior Emery Jamerson has been nominated as a finalist for the National Achievement Scholarship Program.
Jamerson is one of nearly 1,300 finalists from across the country being considered for the scholarships to be offered to outstanding Black American students this year.
The Judges select winners based on several criteria, including the finalist’s academic record, information about the school’s curricula and grading system, two sets of test scores, the high school official’s written recommendation, information about the student’s activities and leadership and the finalist’s own essay.
The winners will be announced in early April.
Jamerson also received an Honorable Mention in the 2010-11 National Hispanic Recognition Program.
While the program does not give out scholarships, they do present certificates to a select group of students from across the country for use in their college applications.
Jamerson moved to the area before his ninth grade year.
He is enrolled in the Medical Pathway Program at Union-Endicott High School and has dreams of one day becoming a heart surgeon.
